Topic:
Automated Laser Cladding Repair; Decreasing Cost, Turnaround Time, and Increasing Reliability
Presenter:
Steven Borle MSc, P.Eng | Materials/Welding Engineer | Group Six Technologies
Description:
Group Six Technologies along with the Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining and the Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing, Design and Automation have developed a process for efficiently automating laser cladding repair of unique one-off parts.
In this talk we will briefly compare laser cladding to other re-coating repair methods and discuss how by employing sensors and robotics, Group Six Technologies has automated laser cladding repair welding operations, which allows significantly decreased costs, welding time and material use. This is accomplished by being able to eliminate or decrease the need for pre-machining and post-machining and by employing smart weld path planning to efficiently rebuild parts. We will discuss how this is accomplished and how it can be applied to pumps, turbines, compressors, centrifuges, and valves.
