This presentation will provide a basic understanding of the benefits of using a compound labyrinth seal in challenging environments. Other common sealing solution pros and cons will also be presented. Inpro/Seal product design evolution, since the invention of the original Bearing Isolator in 1977 by Inpro/Seal, will be provided for perspective and user/specifier insight. 
 
Equipment specific (gearboxes, electric motors, pumps and steam turbines) challenges, such as oil levels, contamination ingress, shaft movement, lubrication retention and shaft grounding will be included as well as related product solutions.
